Climate related trends in US hazardous material releases caused by natural hazards
نویسندگان
چکیده
Natural hazards are the underlying cause of between 1 and 7 percent federally reported hazmat releases in US every year. During period from 1990 through 2019 fraction caused by natural has increased, large part due to increased hurricanes as well floods, storms wind. Many these events minor, but some have resulted expensive deaths, injuries, evacuations. Inter annual variability is correlated with occurrence extreme weather associated climate indices. Given observed future predicted increases events, it likely many types will continue increase. Greater attention management hazard risk industry, particularly bulk storage facilities, required prevent further increase frequency severity events.

Natural and technologic hazardous material releases during and after natural disasters: a review.
Natural disasters may be powerful and prominent mechanisms of direct and indirect hazardous material (hazmat) releases. Hazardous materials that are released as the result of a technologic malfunction precipitated by a natural event are referred to as natural-technologic or na-tech events. Na-tech events pose unique environmental and human hazards. Disaster-associated hazardous material release...
متن کاملChemical incidents resulted in hazardous substances releases in the context of human health hazards.
OBJECTIVES The research purpose was to analyze data concerning chemical incidents in Poland collected in 1999-2009 in terms of health hazards. MATERIAL AND METHODS The data was obtained, using multimodal information technology (IT) system, from chemical incidents reports prepared by rescuers at the scene. The final analysis covered sudden events associated with uncontrolled release of hazardo...
متن کاملAccidental hazardous material releases with human impacts in the United States: exploration of geographical distribution and temporal trends.
OBJECTIVE To investigate the circumstances and geographic and temporal distributions of hazardous material releases and resulting human impacts in the United States. METHOD Releases with fatalities, injuries, and evacuations were identified from reports to the National Response Center between 1990 and 2008, correcting for data quality issues identified in previous studies. RESULTS From more...
متن کاملMining Extreme Values: Climate and Natural Hazards
The analysis and modeling of extreme values have traditionally relied on extreme value theory (EVT), which in turn has tended to focus on limiting or asymptotic cases and assumptions of independence. However, disciplines from climate science and digital mapping to infrastructure security and transportation, have been generating massive volumes of data with multidimensional and multivariable dep...
متن کاملApplication of Chaos Theory in Hazardous Material Transportation
Risk factors are generally defined and assigned to road networks, as constant measures in hazmat routing problems. In fact, they may be dynamic variables depending on traffic volume, weather and road condition, and drivers' behavior. In this research work, risk factors are defined as dynamic variables using the concept of chaos theory. The largest Lyapunov exponent is utilized to determine the ...
